When the death of a loved one is caused by the wrongful act or negligence of another, the estate of the decedent may be entitled to bring and action for wrongful death.
The estate may be able to recover monetary damages for, among other things, the funeral and burial expenses of the decedent, pain and suffering of the decedent, expenses for care, treatment, and hospitalization of the decedent incident to the injury resulting in death, the family’s loss of companionship, guidance, and advice of the decedent, and punitive damages.
