Attorney Brandon S. Atwater Speaks to a Group of Students from Shepard Middle Schools About His Journey to Becoming a Lawyer
On Thursday, October 13, 2016, Attorney Brandon S. Atwater was honored to speak to a group of students from Shepard Middle School during a recent CourtCares session. The CourtCares program, which was initiated by Judge Joe L. Webster and staff of the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina in Durham, was launched to reach out to students in the Durham Public Schools.
During the recent session, eighth-grade students from Shepard Middle School were introduced to the federal court system and encouraged to stay on the right side of the law. Atwater, who went to Shepard Middle School more than twenty years ago, spoke to the students about setting goals, staying focused, and avoiding peer pressure. Atwater also spoke about his journey to becoming a lawyer and his firm’s legal practice. The session concluded with Judge Webster conducting a mock criminal trial and giving the students a tour of the judicial chambers.
